In, build, out ... Couple of hours ? Lol.

Not possible when ya need powder coat, paint, decals, waiting on components, sending things back etc. Unless ya have a grand to spend in one go and order everything, even then frame needs cold setting, bottom bracket re-threading, I doubt anyone has undertaken a project like this and had it complete start to finish in a couple of weeks let alone couple of hours lol.
Oh i know. Can be a right pain when someone buys the wrong parts or the frame is "wrong". Or there's a job the frame needs to go away for. That's why most of my bikes stay in a box, in pieces, until I'm absolutely sure I've got all the bits. Then i build them.

So you can't be bothered to stop and take pictures when/ if you build a bike, but you are quite happy to come onto someone else's thread and rip them apart, or you'd probably call it 'offer useful advice', for doing what you can't be bothered to do.

Well I must say you are a useful member of this forum aren't you?
No. 95% of the builds are for "paying customers". I'm fitting it in between the kids going to bed and me going to bed. It'd add a couple of hours to a build. I haven't got the time or inclination. And there are thousands of pictures of properly built bikes on the net.

And if you think snagging potentially dangerous issues on a build while it's in progress is "ripping someone apart" the problem is probably you.

Carbon seatpost would look great on this and help keep the weight down

It's surprising how close weights are between carbon and aluminium. It took a long time to find a 240mm sort of length post for my Litespeed (27.2) which was lighter than an Easton Dura-Ace one (200g)...eventually found a USE Alien at 185g. Most carbon ones are 220-250g.

I'm sure that the benefits are greater for wider or longer posts.

I'd love a carbon jobbie in there but I am worried about clamping steel around it.

KCNC do a Ti-Pro Lite Scandium one and I have the Thomson Elite on my other bike, both would work a treat and look good.

I'm pretty sure I'm going with a Thomson again, I love the micro adjustment on the seat rails.

I agree, Thomson are great value, very light and above all reliable. A pal of mine bust a carbon post at the bottom of the Tourmalet, having to ride the entire climb out of the saddle.

Re:

I like USE seatposts, but the saddle clamp can be a bit dodgy.

It didn't break but I had a similar experience where the camp just fell out of love with the post, so, seat and clamp up the jersey and it was standing room only all the way home.

I like Thompson too and they can be found at bargain prices sometimes on ebay.

I had an USE post go "ping" on me at the farthest point of a ~50 miler mtb ride in the peak district :(

Was my own silly fault, it'd already started being a bit wobbly in the previous race i did. Had to stop and fix it two or three times. Didn't fix it very well. :D

Replaced it with a syncros post, which is still on there.

And as for carbon, you need to go *very* expensive or very long to get lighter or more comfortable than a good aluminium one. But clamping in steel will be fine as long as the frame is well finished and close to size.

I agree, the USE Alien's bolt looks awfully undersized and the head is too easy to mangle. I lived in fear of it going ping for the first couple of years...probably I ought to replace it in case it has started to crack.

I've often wondered if some of the eBay Thomsons are counterfeit - but CRC and others often seem to be clearing odd sizes as a discount.
