avid juicy carbon disc brakes...I fixed 'em

Mine are crap how about yours :?:
They have no power
no modulation
The pads are fine
The discs are new
just wondered if anybody else has this problem :?:

I have had several disc brakes over the years and I have never had any that work to a satisfactory level  I am going to sell mine I think and my wheels and go back to v's on my klein unless anyone can tell me why they are not working. I feel that if I pull the lever any harder the hose will pop off or the carbon lever will snap
help :?

Get some Shimano Saints, they stop you like a brick wall, or some Formula The Ones, light, and almost as powerful.

Juicy's are pretty terrible overall TBH.

I thought that that might be the case  They look good but the performance is ...t  I was thiking about doing away with them altogether and going v for the weight saving but the performance is pushing me over the edge as well  So much for "sing for the bling" no good when you hit a tree at about thirty five is it :?:

Formula R1's are damn light for disc brakes (263g for the lightest configuration inc rotor), they're blingtastic and they are awesome brakes. Very impressive power & good modulation

I've had Avid Juicy 3 (very poor), Hayes Nines (great power, no modulation) & 2 sets of Hope Mono Mini's ('04ish & '07 ones) both were good on power & modulation, but not a patch on the Formula R1's

.......Hayes.......

I'd not have any Hayes brakes even if I was paid to (except maybe the mechanical ones) as everyone I know that's had them always ends up with problems.

One of my mates has the new Elixirs and they are powerful but very on/off. I nearly went over the bars when I rode his bike, and that was only using one finger on the lever!

I had a set of these and they were crap, reservoirs leaked and the stopping wasn't great.

Running XTR/Saint up front and the power & modulation is really quite impressive :D

I didn't have any problems with my Hayes, but have heard of a few probs with them, Hayes Sole mostly, but they are really low end stuff, so to be expected really.

Formula R1's are as powerful as the Elixir's (from what I'm told) but they also have superb modulation.

If anyone wants to have a go on a bike with the Formula R1 brakes & is going to the BDW let me know & I'll bring that bike along too

These aren't just Soles, they're near enough most models they've made at one time or another. The worst offenders are the HFXs which always seem to end up with seized pistons no matter how they're looked after. I think it's a combination of using Dot 4 fluid with magnesium pistons and an alloy body.

I have juicy 5's, I am not impressed. GF has juicy 3.5's she likes them... but i'm so much more hardcore than her, got some air once
