AV Vote, who do i contact re; missing ballot paper?

you said why should you first preference have equal weight to someone elses second preference
that swung it for me
and besides, i dont think you can get hung parliament with av right?

Yes, you can.

I don't actually want AV as such, it's just FPTP with bells on really. But a vote to stick with the current system is a vote against electoral reform. So I voted yes.

oh yeah i see now

but its the fact of weight of preference
as i said above
just because you voted yes to av doesnt mean they know we want reform
they think we will just be happy with av then :?

Yep.. likewise if you vote no they'll assume you are happy with FPTP

and if you dont vote they assume you dont care!
argh!

although i can see now actually, we (or I) couldve voted for av and then call for a proper reform after its shown to not work well for us, but that could go for either way - fptp or av

neither are great but to be honest both would work a whole heap better if voter turnout was better than the 30 - 35% average we get currently.

yes very true, but the younger generation arent being brought up being taught politics
as someone said before - if they want more turnout etc. for voting and what not, the parties should educate the people if they want theyre vote

there is a lot of small print with politics

why dont people like first past the post??

Now all I need is who to vote for in the local elections..

Think all I'll do is ask them all where they stand on the hunting act.. the ones that want it repealed will get my vote (it's a contested wotsit with 7 nominations and 4 seats)..

Or I'll be tossing (a coin) in the booth....

A switch to AV is reform, of a kind. A step on the path, anyway.

they think we will just be happy with av then Confused

If AV comes in (which I doubt it will) then you can expect the campaign for full PR to pick up steam.

why dont people like first past the post??

Because often more people voted against the people in power than voted for them.

Each to his own, and all that, but this is local elections -- the hunting act is a bit irrelevant, the people you're voting for don't have any influence over that.

Couldn't disagree with you more there. The younger generations are far more politically savvy than any before - they have access to vast amounts of information at their fingertips, along with being taught from a young age about reading between the lines - both in terms of text and statistics.
