We're seriously thinking of moving to Aus.
Anyone done it? What do we need to know?
Realistically how much money would be needed to start up a new life.

It's early days yet, as in we've not even taken a holiday there.

I work for Hewlett Packard, IT Systems. Laura owns and runs a hair salon. I think looking on various websites we have the skills/points to get into the country.

And, where in the country to live? I'd need some hills obviously.

sorry we are full.......

It all depends on what you want, Melbourne is the best compromise in so much its more "english" than most of the other cities. Sydney is expensive but some brilliant scenery, Perth is crap IMHO, Hobart and tassie in general is fab scenery wise but its still about 1982 over there, The gold coast is full of vacuous wankers and QLD in general is as backward as it gets. Forget Darwin.

SB, You missed Canberra, your version of Milton Keynes - it is hilly though and only 2 hours from Threadbo for good skiing and riding. My sister lives there.
Have to admit I love Sydney as a city, never been to Melbourne but my mate loves it, he moved out 2 years back.

sounds perfect for a retrobiker :D

It's ironic the Aussies have become choosy who they let in. back in the old days you just needed brake the law!

A bit of sledging before the cricket starts. not that It's needed though

al. :D

How could I forget Keeenbra! Some ace mountain bike trails there but the city is like a 70's version of the future and it's dull beyond imagination. The holy Grail bar in Manuka is ok though. Popped many an Aussie dirtvalve in there during my stay.
