Aspergers traits ?....my odd behavior

Do you think that if you knew, it would make your life any better? Are you happy with where your life is now? Or is there something that you feel holds you back?

I guess on one hand we are discovering real illnesses that have been hidden , undiscovered for a long time, but on the other hand as you say, we could be almost inventing some of them to fit around bad / difficult behavior due to a changing society and bad parenting skills.

chris667 are you talking to me or anothers comment on here ? If me i certainly wish i could be more sociable in a natural non forced way.

Yup. Every quack wants a syndrome named after them.

it's a hell of a spectrum, and we're all on it, to some degree...

But probably to a very small degree

If you suspect and want tested be aware that the testing is long and complex, they need access to all medical records, school records and family experience.

My missus deals with kids that are at all levels of the spectrum, from 11-16yr old. It's easier to get diagnosed (or, 'statemented') now than 20 years ago when I was that age, and people were just pigeon-holed as 'hyperactive' or 'disruptive'.

I was talking to you. If you feel that's the case, perhaps you should go and see if any help is available. Your GP might be a good place to start; ask for a referral to a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist, if you get no help from there then maybe you could try the National Autistic Society. I think it's important to say, though, that there isn't a "cure" for autism; getting a diagnosis won't necessarily change anything.

Not that you'd want a "cure". It is in many ways a blessing.

The cynic in me would suggest that it's a diagnosis pushed for by parents as it attracts additional state benefit..........
