are these fixable ??

sent an email to dave yates this morning just waiting on a reply.

but keep the comments coming all oppinions are welcome

depends if i trust the local guy :P

i'll wait and see what dave says first, then maybe approach the local guy with some proper professional advice behind me :)

got an official response from dave yates reads as follows :-

Our honest opinion is that repairing the frame will not be cost effective. We have seen a lot of Prestige frames with similar problems to yours, and they are usually beyond economic repair. We could sleeve the seat tube (£50) but could not guarantee that it will not break elsewhere. We could replace the seat tube (£120) but again, the frame could break elsewhere. New bottle bosses would be £20, and re-sprays start at £80 (single colour enamel frame only) The crack on the seat stay is not a problem and the cost to repair would be £10. RegardsDebbie [email protected]

as much as i would like to go for the full replacement i really cant afford it currently (i can always send it back to him at a later date to get it replaced) the most cost effective is going to be the sleeve option, as this bike isnt going to thrashed offroad anymore (more of a gentle pace off the beaten track) or will just become a street screamer.

thanks everyone for you most valued input will let you all know how i get on.

the chainstay looks more like a scratch than a crack?

trust me it is a crack, from the looks of it Orange didnt do too good of a job with this bit as it has cracked on the seam of the tube at the exact point where its been squashed to shape if it had been rotated a few degrees more before being shaped it would be fine.

well after a few emails back and forth, i'll be taking the old girl to see dave yates next wednesday.

i'll let you all know how i get on after my visit :D

well just got back from my trip to lincoln to see Mr Dave Yates.
and the news isn't good, on closer inspection of the frame he checked the multitude of weak spots that orange prestige's have.

after managing to find his pokie tool on his work bench (it has a small black hole on it which seems to swallow tools im sure we've all experienced this)) he found another weak spot just above the BB shell around the welding between seat tube and BB shell.

and another weak spot where the down tube meets the BB shell.
will get some pics taken tomorrow of the areas (so any other prestige owners out there know where to check for any problems)
so all in all not a very good day.

however im not detered, i will give it a good rub down and give it a good rattle can spray in a satin black, and re-decal it (gil_m is getting me some sorted)

build it up and use it as an occasional round the town jobbie for a few months(maybe longer depending on wether it lasts) and then retire it as a nice wall hanging.

will let you know how my build goes.

(P.S) to ALL prestige owners out there a good tip from dave would be to get some silicon sealer in any/all the exterior holes on the frame.

the holes are supposed to be there to let liquid out however they do a better job of letting it in.
