are these fixable ??

not half as upset as they make me

i mean i knew it was in pretty bad shape but i didnt think it had a hole in it.

at least i now know why it creaked like F**k when pedalling stood up.

(pretty damned hard to see a small black hole/crack on a black frame)

You could fill the crack with epoxy resin (yes it is in effect glueing it!) to save blowing holes through the tubes by welding. Once dry you can sand smooth and paint over.

It looks like it's rusted through from behind, so will need rust checking with some frame saver or the likes.

altho that does sound tempting as a quick fix (very tempting to be honest)
the old girl deserves a whole lot more.
i think i will be getting in touch with dave yates and ask his oppinion on what can be done, and what sort of price i would be looking at. (by the sounds of it not that cheap :? )

i will when i get this sorted most deffinatly be getting hold of some of that frame saver (didnt know such a thing existed) i used to just spray WD40 in all the wholes but obviously its effects dont last long :(

i do find it a little strange its rusted through where it has, its a good 6" above the BB and a good inch or so above where the front mech bands on.

its a little puzzling thats for sure.

this is the right solution,..put a real pricey one

unfortunatly i dont think the warranty on Oranges is quite the same as serottas
altho a full replacement may be the only real option (have to see what dave yates says about it)

unfortuantly this repair is all based on how much its going to cost, its a tricky one for sure.

the epoxy sounds good as a cheap fix, BUT its not exactly going to make it structuly sound.

a full replacement tube makes the most sense as its going to be the most structuly sound, BUT its going to be quite pricey.

some sort of middle ground would be great, BUT im not an expert on welding (infact i know nothing about it  ) so have no idea what can be done.

keep the comments coming all suggestions taken onboard :D

Short of replacing the tube, which as you rightly say won't be cheap, then i think a repair for now is the best option. It can always be replaced sometime in the future after you win the lottery :)

There are lots of ways it can be repaired by welding (sloting, sleeving etc) but non would look particulary tidy.

TBH there does look like a lot of thining in that area and it could cause more cracking in other areas when that one is repaired. If you had it shot blasted i'de dare say you'll blow lots of little holes everywhere in that area.

If it was my bike, i would epoxy it for now and start a penny jar fund to have it replaced :)

out of interest has anyone had a tube replaced that wasnt under warranty?

if anyone has how much did it cost?

just want to get some sort of an idea of how much this is going to set me back.

if you are after a cheap option i'd go for a combo of 2 suggestions above. sloeeve it inside with a seatpost. this will add strength. then fill with the resin and paint over. or stick it on the wall as an offering to the gods of the hills
