Anyone try to put retro parts on their modern bike?

Hi, just curious, does anyone try putting retro parts on a modern bike?

agency_scum was running thumbies and M730 cranks on a Surly 29er until he saw the light and got a kona like a good boy.

They'll work just as nicely, though centrepull canti's tend not to work too well attached to disc tabs.

It's not only possible it's advisable. Apart from the aesthetic beauty of your steed decked out in yesteryear's widgets there's the engineering and financial motives of 6/7/8 speed drivetrains having more tolerance for set-up, wear+tear and lower costs.

I put Onza Ules on my 2009 RM, until I got fed up with them moving around and fitted lock-ons
