Anyone try to put retro parts on their modern bike?

agency_scum was running thumbies and M730 cranks on a Surly 29er until he saw the light and got a kona like a good boy.
 
It's not only possible it's advisable. Apart from the aesthetic beauty of your steed decked out in yesteryear's widgets there's the engineering and financial motives of 6/7/8 speed drivetrains having more tolerance for set-up, wear+tear and lower costs.
 
I put Onza Ules on my 2009 RM, until I got fed up with them moving around and fitted lock-ons :(
