Dawes Kickback

Is it a classic then? should I persuade him to sell it to some one who will look after it or was it just a mass produced cheap bike

My first MTB was Dawes Ranger. 531ATB tubes, 531 tandem-size forks and a very loooong wheelbase. This is a scan of a photo of the 'beast' c1988 (I think).

Depends on the frame. If the sticker (teasingly not readable in the photo) ays 531 then its a decent enough frame, certainly at Lavadome / Palisades / Rockhopper sort of level.

If 501 it's Kona Hahanna sort of level - still a proper bike, but nothing to get excited about.

501 was released as an off road version of 531. My dawes kick pants was 500 which is slightly better than scaffolding.
