Anyone have a RockShox seal installer tool # 70103?

Hi,
I am rebuilding an old pair of Rock Shox RS1 (maybe 1991) and need the seal installer tool no. 70103 to slide the lower bushing back in.

Does anyone have this tool?

Seems the "tool" is only a hollow tube that keeps the bushing in place as you slide it into the lower housing. Anyone have any luck replicating the tube size used for this?

I Googled the part and there is little to nothing online about it.

Attached are the Rockshox instructions showing the part I need.

FWIW, and I've not worked on an RS1, but have done a fair bit with Mag21 and relatives...

When reassembling those later breathern, the bushings and seals are all installed on the upper leg. Then, a tube (I use PVC) that just slips over the stantions is used to drive the stack of bushings and seals down into the lower leg. Usually a few firm bumps of the palm are all that's required, then the circlip is installed.

Apologies if the RS1 reassembles differently, but I see nothing in the exploded diagrams that differes from my Future Shock FSX, a direct decendant.

Hi J,
I think your answer is a good one. I have been researching it since last night and it seems like you are correct, all I need is the correct size pipe to slide the bushing in place and pvc would be a good choice. Do you remember what size pvc pipe you used?

Well, the stantions are (IIRC) 25mm diameter. 1" sched. 40 pvc tubing would have an ID of 26.64mm, and should be a good choice.

Re:

In USA, best I could find was a 1 1/4 inch pvc for a bathroom sink drain pipe. I still had to hone it out a bit with a Dremel but it worked. What a royal pain in the ass. I finally got both shocks all back together only to find that one side is leaking air through the valve seal. Parts I do not have. Not that I am eager to take them apart again. :(

Does anyone know who rebuilds these old shock? I got a NO from PUSH in Colorado. They recommended mtbsuspensionexperts.com in Asheville, NC, who said they do not work on them.

Anyone know where I can get these rebuilt or is over for these?

Ok, I will answer my own question. Risse Racing in Oregon says they can rebuild old RS1, etc. Price quoted was $100.

Which seal is leaking? The air needle valve seal, or the main seal?

The main oil seals ('round the stantion) is probably available thru Enduro. They have'em back to Mag 10, 20, 21, at least.

If it's the air needle valve, you can make your own replacements, quite simply. Discussed in this thread:

Good luck,
