I have 2 dogs. Douglas is far too interested in sniffing everything to make it fun but milly loves it. She's a little jack russell so can't go too far but she's good for a few miles. Would probably go further but you've got to be careful not to actually kill them.
It is great obedience training too- you encourage them to stay with you and reward them with plenty of 'good girl' she loves it'

Max is a beagle /spaniel so he will go for longer than me . 
I have been told not to take them till they are at least one otherwise it can damaged their hips and other joints .

I'm hoping my 2 lurchers will do well.. by nature they follow where I go, it's just if they can keep a safe distance and not have me a**e over tit..
I ran them alongside a quad I was pillion on and there were no near-misses at all so we may be ok..
Going to take it slow though.. don't want to break myself or the dog (well, more the dog than me - the NHS will fix me for nowt

Physical maturity is essential fella. . . a little dog matures faster than a biggun but I'd wait at least 12months toocchris2lou":31gdhzws said:
Only problem I can see with a beagle mix is that, being hounds, they tend to run off...
Of course that can be somewhat overcome with training and you may get the spaniel coming through stronger anyway..

Yup, I go out most mornings, with the dog, for about 3/4 of an hour, and sometimes at weekends for a couple of hours. We're lucky; we have miles of singletrack literally on our doorstep, and he absolutely loves it. Trouble is, he's brown, the sand is brown, and in the autumn, the bracken is brown. Being small, he runs under the bracken without disturbing it, and can emerge anywhere. Bigger dogs are easier to follow as the blunder about, but It's essential to have good (disc) brakes.
