Off to hopefully purchase a 93 Merlin later today and wondered if there were any particular areas to check, apart from the usual stuff like seatpost free etc etc.

Not very familiar (apart from looking at them) with Ti frames or this brand and just wondered if there any specific known problems

Seems genuine enough and the seller is very helpful, but still a fair bit of money to lose if its a wrong'un
Nearly as nerve wracking as buying a second hand car, although the one new vehicle we ever had was pure cack

check that its my size for if you sell it on please :D
seriously though check the sizing, Merlins are usually measured centre to centre. I bought a frame advertised (correctly - my bad) as 18.5" but it was sadly too large for me as it was 20.5" centre to top.

Never too sure about measurements so asked for the c to top size.
Was a 17.5in which will do me fine.

Sorry about your buy, why can't there be a standard measuring point?

Marins always seem to come up big as do GT's whilst I find the opposie of Specialized.

Sorry its not your size and hopefully its a keeper, cheers for the reply

just don't drewl too much on the welds while inspecting 'm
They're really good frames and mostly well taken care off, dents do occur more then cracks as far as I know... good luck with the purchase!

Yeah the whole size thing is a pain. Thats why i check the toptube length. The Merlin you've just bought is supposed to have a 21" tt, too short :(

Well just measured it and the actual tt c to c measurement is 22 1/2 ins with the virtual a tad more.
Was that measurement from the Merlin website?

Arse. he told me it was 21" in the email, shorter than my P20, too short....
Glad its gone to someone on here, someone who will appreciate it.

Enjoy
Not jealous, honest.....

Sorry about that, but at least it wasn't bought for a quick ebay buck if that makes you feel a bit better

Did tell the chap that I would probably sell some of the modern bits to fund a rebuild, but he genuinely wanted it to go to someone who would appreciate it and I do :D

Not exactly hard luck having a P20 though is it
