Any idea’s what this is?

Some of you may have seen this on eBay, it was pick up only and only 4 miles away so I snuck out at lunchtime and picked it up.

I was initially attracted to it for the wheels and BSA components, Now, I have it, I am thinking about what to do with the frame and keeping it altogether (This happens a lot 😄)

Trouble is I have no idea what it is! (And neither did the seller) It is well made and feels like it was a quality bike. I’ve been looking for similar head tube lugs and fork crowns online. But not found a match.

Closest I’ve found so far is a Sunbeam, but I don’t think it is.

It has BSA Pattern Hubs Dunlop stainless steel rims, Philips front centre pull- but not sure whether the latter is original

Serial is on BB shell and is 274686

Anyone have any ideas?

Looks like a gents machine from the 30s or 40s
Someone at the vcc could help identify it. It's a long frame number so probably a major manufacturer

lugs -

both Brampton Bros. & NERVEX offered this nozzle cut
it was fairly commonly seen during the interwar period

made by other producers as well

NERVEX offered three patterns of feature cut with this horizontal slot but none are a match for what the cycle wears

head parts -

appear Brampton Bros.

locknut is part Nr. 925 104 or 925 109, depending on thread

adjustable race is part Nr. 915 001, or 915 020, or 915 021, or 915 600
depending upon thread and ball size

head parts offered in three finishes: chrome, nickel, black enamel

dropouts -

distinctive crescent cutout
thought might be Brampton but not shown in my materials

another reader likely to recognise them straightaway

Thank you!

shell is interesting in that it exhibits sockets for downtube & seat tube but none for chainstays

wonder if backside made smooth or if it has plugs for chainstays

checked my Brampton materials and no shells of this patern are shown

pedals appear to be Phillips Apollo
