In the Merchant navy the guys who work deep sea, on the big ships away from land for weeks, all used to have Sony 7600D's, or variations of. Excellent radios, can get the world service almost anywhere on earth and are light and small (for the standards of the day) and sturdy for suitcases!

One of these coupled with a battered mid '80s Samsonite Oyster and a scratched Seiko Divers automatic mark you out as a true 'old school' ship's officer.
(I have all three! )

Was listening to my Sony this morning

i had the 79 sony walkman when it came out...i used it for ten years before it died...moved on to the sony sports which was indestructable....ah the good times...12 songs on the tape ...a whole hour of music....

now i use a sony nwa 1000 in gloss black which if i pressed play would still be playing a different song in a weeks time....

to lgf...jean michelle jarre ....youve just gone up in my esteem list....betting somewhere in your house is a pink floyd tape too..

ps i use this when i have to get my hands dirty on site..
