Anodizing removal

Oven cleaner (the kind with lye in it) will take anodizing off aluminum, and if you leave it too long, it will etch it.
It's also a pretty good paint and grease remover for steel, but won't affect it otherwise.

As you've probably gathered, ive been on the hunt for an X-Lite L168, 115mm, ideally silver, for 6 months or more and nothing has turned up.

I picked this up last week from ebay..





I suspect from somebody here anyhow it's mint! but not exactly what i'm looking for so before i strip the anno and polish it up.. does anyone have a 115mm in similar minty-fresh condition which they would like to swap? ideally in silver or failing that a 135mm version in silver, again in similar condition.

Based in the UK please, i have no interest in selling it...

The slightly difficult thing in that part are the inners of the CNCd tube. The deanodizer will leave a residue you have to brush away.

Caustic soda 90% pure, 1-3 in water (add soda to water, not the other way around).
Fumes are hydrogen, don't smoke.
10 minutes should be enough.

Rinse in acetic acid (vinegar) to neutrilise the caustic soda. this will also help with sludgy bits in hard to get to cavities. Then flush with water, lots and lots of water.

Add acetic acid to your mix and let settle, then tip it through a fine gauze to take out the aluminium salts you've made. then dispose of liquid safely.

wear gloves, goggles and long sleeves, caustic burns are not fun.
