Amy winehouse

And if she was my Daughter/Sister then I would have made damn sure she never got anywhere near the state she got into.
She needed taking away from the circle of 'friends' she was in, but nobody bothered as she was making everyone involved money.
The cynic in me (and I do have one ) says some of these people who are so distraught over her death will also be rubbing their hands at the prospect of making more money from tribute and 'best of' albums.

Andy ,yup thats about the sum of it ,kids are a bloody menace

i just think for somone who was a cash cow for so many ,that they'd have given her enough self respect to look after herself a bit better

anyway its done now

In one hundred lifetimes, I might never get the chance that Amy Winehouse had;
  • the chance to do something that you enjoy
  • the chance to bring enjoyment to people around the world
  • the chance to have an army of adoring fans
  • the chance to earn enough money to secure the future of yourself and your entire family
  • the chance to avoid 45 years of 9-to-5 drudgery that so many people face...
All thrown away at 27 years old.

And that's why if I have any sympathy going spare, I choose to give it to the poor sods in Somalia who are dying from famine and dehydration because aid agencies can't get into the war zone in which they're camped.

All true - I happen to agree with this 100%. Amy Winehouse (and plenty of others like her) seemed almost intent on self-destruction, and personally I can't understand that - life, and the ability and opportunities to do whatever it is that I do, has always been and always will be precious to me.
But presumably there lies the difference - while I can never claim to have, when I was younger, not succumbed to ill-advised temptation of one kind or another I never fully embraced the "F*ck it - I hope I die before I get old" philosophy.
I had friends who did though, and a few didn't survive it.

But there you go.......

Andy R - the voice of reason in the wilderness of rabid cruelty that makes up most of the postings in the last 2 pages of this thread.

The rest of you should be ashamed of yourselves quite frankly.

Yes - she made some bad choices.
Yes - she wasted her life.
Yes - she may not be the most deserving recipient of mass public sympathy.

But it still doesn't make it right to write some of the totally unnecessary vitriol that's been written in this thread.

Guys - you should have more class than this.

Yes, I can identify with this completely. Even during my twenties, I'm grateful that I had enough understanding of 'consequences' to survive the heavy drinking and associated antics.

Those friends who didn't worry about consequences are either dead or will be taking very powerful medication for the rest of their lives.

Nope, it was all her.

Your thinking of that Ronson nob again!!

8)

Her first album she is noted as 'co-writing' all of the songs apart from two, the two that she didn't 'co-write' are covers.

Big difference between writing a song and being a co-writer.

Huge amount of difference between being a truly talented musician and just someone that has a good voice.

I get the impression that she was just a voice that headed up others writing/musical talents (Notably Mark Ronson who also produced 'Back to Black').

And The Zutons (original) version pissed all over hers too!

er... Wasn't it Mark Ronson (featuring Amy Winehouse) ?? :)

Anyway, she was quite influential and didn't do too badly:

1 Brit Award
2 Echo Music awards (germany)
5 Grammy Awards (on the same night)
3 Ivor Novello
1 Meteor Music (ireland)
1 MTV Europe
1 MOBO
2 NME
1 Q Award
1 Urban Music
1 World Music

Entertainment Weekly put Back to Black in the top 100 albums of the last 25 years.

NME put it at #27 in the top 100 of the last Decade.

When Jimi Hendrix died was it just a sad loss of another Junkie?? er...no

And when Keith Moon died was it oh well the piss head alcaholic has gone? er...no

Yes she was troubled, and maybe a little lost along the road of life, but she left behind a lot of people that loved her for who she was, and for the music she wrote and sang.

I was never a fan, but being a musician, i understand what the fuss was all about.

I think we should leave it at that.

Just a thought!![/quote]

Good points

Keith Moon was a little bit more interesting with his stage antics than Winehouse. I think crashing cymbals edge first down onto your hands (or anyone else's that got in the way) was pushing the boat out.

I somehow don't think Winehouse will quite get the legendary accolades of Hendrix, Cobain or Moon the loon

That's a bit rich when you consider some of the antics of the subject in question.

Which is broadly speaking what those you speak of are pointing out.

Someone dies of cancer? Sympathy
Someone dies in a car crash? Sympathy
Someone dies of old age? Sympathy
Someone dies having deliberately destroyed themselves with crack, smack and God knows what else? Not so much.
