Alpinestars cro mega

Before you rush out and buy stuff, you might want to think about what your intentions are.
Do you want the bike to be fully original, built with period-correct parts or do you want to "retromod" it (finish it with modern parts) ?

In the first case, you'll need to get hold of the original speclist and then look for the correct parts on eBay. In the second case you'll still need eBay. In the third case, your only worry would be the compatability between old and new parts.

Nice bike!

I have a Cro-Mega DX from the same year and it's great....you might want to check the stem over, looks like one of the Easton alloy ones that was prone to cracking around the clamp, mine had cracked all the way around

What a beauty.

Where'd u pick it up? Not had one myself but everyone who has had one raves about their singletrack prowess. :D

I'd agree with other posters, ride it a few times, see what u like then gaze at the for sale thread and puck up what u need/want over a period of time.

Welcome to the site by the way :D

Couldn't agree with We_are_Stevo's first post more!

There are thousands of members on this site, but for some of them, if the post title doesn't say FAT, KLEIN, FUNK or similar then they don't give it the time of day... However there are also a lot of very helpful and friendly people on here, regardless of what bike they ride and what bikes they're in to :)

That's a lovely bike - GT-Steve sold me his one last year. Here's a pic of it when I had it (I've recently just bought another one too!):

It's without doubt one of the best climbing bikes I've ridden thanks to the shorter back-end.

Because of this though, some people can find the handling to be a little 'twitchy' (I didn't find it too bad myself).

Loki - The curved seat-tube means that these frames can run a shorter rear triangle, meaning that they climb like nobodies business. There are no problems with bottom bracket flex either (certainly not on the Cro Mega). They're pretty much bombproof!
