alpinestars cro-mega LX 1990

Re:

Just an update on this. It's now up and running!

Despite some teething problems, namely getting some brake blocks adapted to the older style m454 cantis(exage), the rear mech not down shifting very well and the headset shaking itself loose whilst under harsh braking.

The headset is a sealed bearing type and seems to require extra bedding in :| seems ok now though.

The DX sti shifters were the initial suspects as per the poor shifting as they hop from 5 to 7 anyway due to a missing tooth internally, but did perform ok on their last bike.
The preferred 500LX rear mech was swapped for a m550 yesterday and all is much better. I do reckon that a swap to thumb shifters and separate levers will be a better long term solution.

Also, sadly the nice, retro amber wall tyres were binned yesterday as after a good scrub were found to be faulty(they were old stock), it comes as a great frustration as the tread is very good and the side walls are supple and nothing like cracked etc...however there are splits and tears where you just don't want them! Goes to show that some things do have a shelf life and, that is that.
It was quite a relief though to swap to some more modern, non ripped, tyres that needed to find a use from stock.

Put through the paces yesterday.

And, after a good scrub plus alterations.

I expect this bike will see subtle adjustments and above all get plenty of use.

cheers.

Re:

Looks great :D Nice job Marc ! Good to see it all mucky too 8)

The missus' one has been getting loads of use since the start of the year. Muddy every weekend so far except one. Hers might be put away for a bit soon though - I'm building up a lovely tiny Ritchey for her at the moment.

Re:

after seeing this up close at the weekend all I can say is
I thought the frame was NOS at first, really nice powder coat, and the decals are spot on too.
Nice to see an A-star that isn't an e-stay too :)
