Thanks for that information, I think I'll clean it up and take some better photo's, may post them on here to see what response I get.
As for the price, I know what it cost me back in 1990..........
I paid £500 for it but it retailed at £550!!!!!!!!!

Worth noting that your £500 BITD is the equivalent of £980 today!

Must have been a decent bike back then, I know when I bought it it had some good gear on it.......

Yes, they were......workmanlike and porposeful, there were certainly more high end bikes available but they were a no nonsense option for a privateer racer on 1990......I like them!.... :D

I'm going to put these photo's in the for sale section to see if anyone is interested......

Thanks everyone for your comments up to now

Some people are asking me if I would break the bike up for spares......

This is a bike I've owned for 22 years, I really don't want to do that, I would like it to go to someone who will look after it, use it and enjoy it...

I would be interested in the brake cantilevers, XT Sharkfin and wheels if you do break.

Splitting it up will get you the most money. Selling complete will be the least hassle. Keeping it and riding it on retrobike rides is the best thing to do!

Thing is, when some (some - not necessarily you, I'm just using the indefinite article) realise there's something of a retro scene for bikes, they rock up, thinking their bike will be worth oodles, when in reality is probably worth very ordinary money.

Many, though, split and flip bikes to score a dime, and many want bikes split because they want / need some parts.

So the answer is, if you want it as is - full, complete - then realistically, that's most likely if you keep it. If you sell it complete, it's not worth loads (perhaps to some, not really worth selling) - so anybody buying it will either be breaking it, probably selling some parts on - or you may find the odd, rare person that will keep it, and restore it as is.

That's not to say there's no sentmentality for old bikes, here - there is, in buckets. Just that the stars rarely align such that your sentimentality, is as valued by the person who may buy your bike.

If you've come in like so many others to say hello offer a bike for sale never to be seen again..then breaking the bike will get you the most money but nowhere near the 200 mentioned earlier

The reason why the hello see yas don't like to break it mostly is because they are unlikely to stay as bikes are not thier passion so they have either no skills or the tools to do so or both so I understand those who would prefer to sell it hassle free as one complete bike

A point to note...when you do put it in the members for sale section it must have a price or the thread will be locked

the complete bike is worth between 50-100 tops and yes because the bike is not that desirable you will get a lot of questions about breaking as with age the parts wear and people look for replacements so ask others to break as they only need individual bits

so as a complete bike you will get less but if it's easier for you then hey that's your choice and good luck with the sale

I'm interested in the whole bike at the right price and promise not to split :D

Still suprised this thread has not been locked though, since it should be in the 'what's my xyz worth' thread.
