Alpinestars AL-MEGA-XT repaint by hand

I got an Alpinestars frameset to restore. During the last 3 month i tried to find some decals for the frame but with no success.

Now i decided to rebuilt the decals as good as possible and paint them by hand.

I like to show some steps of the five day painting procedure.

But at first some impressions of the actual frame condition:

The first step is to remove all the old paint and decals. This needs one and a hlaf day because i use some pickling aids to strip the color.

This is right. I see my translation is too bad. Maybe flashy is the right word. I think there is no possibility to print real neon with a digital printer.

That looks like the guy who goes in the acid in robocop!...yuk!...how do you then remove the goo from the frame?....

well and truly pickled!!! ;)

looking like its gonna be a minter when finished :)

The "stripper" did his job well

each to his own I suppose, I prefer the female variety :D

...rinses off with cold water.

Water is only a good idea for the use on alloy frames because the acid in the paint stripper lets steel rust within minutes.

I use a hard brush to remove the rest of the color. Sometimes the color peels of completely and falls on the floor.
