Airbag for cyclists wins 2011 index design award..

Ha thats really good. Cant see it working too well though? I wonder how sensitive it is...

I think it would work as in, it could protect your head from serious trauma...
but practically, if it went off every time you crashed, it would need recharging again I assume?..

Lifejackets are reusable yes.. but need returning to the supplier for a recharge.. as far as I know anyway..?

I suppose this would have to be pretty sensitive, given that any fall is potentially life threatening.. and if it then needed a recharge at a suppliers, at some expense as well...... I'm thinking it's limited practically?..

I like the idea, but it's still a little... bulky? looks to give good protection coverage although it looks like the dummy still had a hefty faceplant at the end of the clip

A helmet also is supposed to take only one impact before it needs to be replaced.
Sure, you'll often crash without hitting the ground with your head, so this would need a refill/replacement more often than a helmet does.

All in all I'd call it a nice idea, but I don't see it work in the real world.

Good point about the helmet..

so.. you would wear this without a traditional helmet as well? .. How long before someone sues them after hitting a overhanging tree branch?!

I did think that about the helmet too, not just one crash but one accidental drop and your supposed to replace it :?
