Aero Garbage Wind Resistant a lie

Gerard left Cervelo in 2011.
Being fair, they are a company that sells product for profit. The taglines not going to be: 'Looks a bit different but in reality is the same as everything else' is it? Even if that's closer to the truth. They're also far from the only ones who do it. Marketing guff unfortunately comes with the territory and always has. :)

One of Hambini’s favorites 😂😂

Funnily enough, George is on an S5 this year as his road bike. He did an 18:52 on Friday beating the next rider on a full TT bike by 37 seconds. His persistent chasing of the details seems to work despite the naysayers.
Sorry for the crappy photo! 😁 View attachment 980559
Much like everything else, if you don't like it, don't buy it. Happy with what you have? That's absolutely fine! But why knock what you haven't tried? 🤔

Good to see the new bike he is using. Hopefully this one wont upset anyone but time trials so probably someone will .

I get that there is a lot to not like, but from a purely enginerding point of view there is a lot to be fascinated by and enjoy. How much is marketing wank, hard to say, but as a purposeful machine designed do something very very well, I'd say that is pretty close to right on the money. Everything that can be tweaked to as close to the legal mark is also kind of interesting.

Yes, CF is pants, no I don't want a full CF bike, but if it wasn't for it, we wouldn't be doing some of the stuff we are with frames. The profiles, shaping, adjustments to the thickness etc. that make that machine work so well are very very hard and very very expensive to do in metal and to do repeatably is even harder. Why not use a material that can be formed easier?

wrong colour though, red is faster.

I haven't done a TT for years so I'm out of touch with the whole scene but I thought the point of the road bike category was to make it less intimidating for people wanting to try out the sport or to do so without needing a special bike. They could turn up on a "normal" bike and compete against people on similar machines. People who haven't spent lots of time and money optimizing the bike and themselves down to the tiniest aero detail to shave off seconds here and there. George's previous controversial bike was a p*ss take - a time trial frame as a starting point!

With manufacturers blurring the lines between aero and normal now, with machines like the S5, it's made the road bike category a bit of lame duck. I don't know about other aero road bikes but the S5 comes with a 64mm deep rear wheel which is well within the 90mm maximum stated in the CTT rules but still very deep compared to a "normal" bike wheel. If I turned up to a time trial on my Bianchi Sempre Pro road bike expecting to ride against similar machines in the road bike category and saw George's modified S5 with aero chain ring, jockey cage, wavy front wheel etc I'd feel like I'd been conned.

All that tweakery and pushing the boundaries is what the "open" category is for, leave the road bike category to the people it was, I assume, setup for. That is, people who've bought a "normal" bike from a shop and want to have a go at time trials without getting all geeky.

Oh, and for what it's worth I thought Cammish had the right idea with the Old School category.
