Thanks for the advice. Think it will be the powder coaters.
I've not been here long but one thing I've learned already is these guys know what they're talking about, I'm sure you've made the right decision!

I sprayed my 9800 OCLV myself (carbon, so can't powdercoat) and the stripping prepping and spraying takes a LONG time. by the time you've done primer, base and lacquer, paint remover, sand paper etc, you'll be at least 80% to the cost of a powdercoat, and it'll be MUCH tougher.

Whats the consensus then of Powdercoating v non-original finish + potential rust hot spots forming under the coating?
Just something I recall reading about a while back when in the same boat.

Also, when dealing with 'budget' powdercoaters, how do you ensure that they dont spray all the threads/brake studs following the sandblasting stage?
I should imagine that stuff is next to impossible to remove once its gotten into the nooks.

My B17 was coated a while back and despite me asking very nicely, twice, they didn't protect the threads. BB, mech hanger and brake studs were loaded with stuff. Took me a good while to clean out the threads, not impossible but not needed.

You can pop bolts into threads to protect them, maybe some old BB cups too or I have heard of plastic pipe. Just needs to be something to stop / reduce the powder reaching in. Even the cheaper places will have to deal with this sort of thing so should be able to sort it for you.

Just mask it all up or ask them to mask it, I forgot to tell them not to spray the canti studs and even the top of the legs where they mount into the CNC Pace crown... guy doing the job thankfully was also a rider and knew his stuff, he masked them all off. It was a place in Nottingham I used, highly recommend them if anyone if East Mids based and wants their details, can fwd them over...

Re:

I've had motor bike frames coated in the past and they stick little cone things - think ear plugs - into all the holes.

Re:

I agree with powdercoating... but if you are going to spray I recommend Rustoleum Hard Hat. Is unlike any other spray I've used.

It goes on well even on the first coat. I've used the matt black and it's rock hard.

It's meant for industrial situations, so a bit of MTBing is no problem.
