...that's because:
There's air in the left chamber still
The piston is clogged - remove the pads and give it a clean
They should move the same amount each side as soon as you pull the lever, and it's linear progression as you keep pulling.
Pads should be 2 mm from the rim - adjust the piston housing where it sits in the clamp to acheive this, plus you then fine tune it with the small allen screm in the lever (on reds I think there's a much larger knob to do this ?)
I've never used instructions, as they didn't exist
