Now worries, paint it in what you want. Just like colour, there's no single right answer.
What I'd really like is to be able to repaint in classic Marin Zolatone 'frying pan' finish. That outlasted everything. It never seemed to have a primer layer, maybe it was a very clever powdercoat.
BTW, powdercoat is softer than enamel - it's just tiny plastic grains that are then melted on during the baking stage. That slight softness also gives it the chip resistance.
