Advice - Attaching small children to your bike....

she hated the seat we had and tbh so did I! I was always worried about stacking it! we had a dog run across our path once and it was scary trying avoid the dam thing and keep the bike upright, so we hired a trailer and she loved it :) mind you we got a few strange looks as we took the off trail routes around the local ressy :) me on the bike in the bottom of the ruts dragging a trailer across the top of them with a child screaming her her head off in pleasure
our trailer went to somebody on here :) so I hope it got/is still getting plenty of use and putting a smile on someones small face :) while dad has a heart attack

I saw someone pelting through the woods at Centerparcs with a kid trailer on the back, wheels bouncing off roots as it went. Didn't look to comfortable for the passenger as the thing hit a 45 degree angle on one wheel.

My kids loved the trailer - fire roads are fine. We got 30mph downhill and it was steady as a rock. I tried some more adventurous bits and needed £300 in physio to my knee after overloading it up a steep hill in bottom gear. Lesson learnt.

We did a tour of the Devon coast to coast route on the tandem with No1 son stoking on the back and No2 son in the trailer.

So a trailer is much more versatile than a seat IME.

Saw a guy on a modern Pace FS with a rear mounted seat and his 3 year old on the back, not only was he out in the forest he was taking on some of the nice tighter trails and having no problems, the lad was loving it.
We used a rear seat for our youngest lad and now we'll be putting our daughter in it on holiday (for short periods only as she is only six months), but we've found that as soon as you can it seems to be better to get them on a trailer bike.
The handling is effected but you get used to it and being careful getting on and off.
Oh and I now pull the trailer bike and the wife has the seat.

Carl.

when off shore i find you can get anything to stay put with CABLE TIES and DUCTAPE with these 2 items you can fix and adjust anything and everything even attach a kid to your frame

failing that the hamax kiss seats offer good value and are really solid and sturdy but as the other guy said please dont kick you kid on the dismount

When mine were still little enough for a seat, I used the Weeride. It's the one that is positioned between the rider and the bars. Good points, you could watch the child (and see when items were discarded off the side!), and talk easily to them without looking around, bike felt better balanced, and less chance of a boot to the face! I found it easier to mount / dismount the bike, and I'm sure the kids preferred the view out front rather than my sweaty back. Bad point was the slighly knees out riding position that felt weird. Thomas spend most of his time asleep with his head resting on the pad thingy at the front of the seat.

Velcro :D
Sew on to the childs bike clothing and glue the other bit to the seat.

offshore is one word

While there have been recent advancements in adhesives, nothing really beats welding. They squirm quite a bit more than you think.
