Achilles Tendonitis

I wonder about shoes as opposed to boots, shoes come off easier than boots, so perhaps in a spill the bike might not follow if the shoes came off.

But as I am determined to try spuds, I do wonder about this issue of bike following when all instinct is to jettison the hard angular sharp nasty thing it is in a crash.

Now I don't know clip in arrangements of any kind, so I don't know if any have the ability to unclip when things ain't going good, as I suppose it is the last thing one might think of in the split seconds of a crunch.

I ruptured my left Achilles three years ago now. Until recently it has been OK but I am starting to have some discomfort in my heel from time to time. I generally ride with SPD's (I have some Shimano shoes with a slightly raised collar, not quite boots) and haven't noticed it making any difference.

As an aside, I had a crash earlier this year while out on a road ride where a van turned right across my path and I ran out of stopping space, I got dumped on my arse in the road when my front wheel collided with his front wing but both pedals released and the bike didn't hit me although I'm not sure how!

I currently have Tendonitis in my right achilles tendon, symptoms appeared about 3 weeks ago now.
It's an overuse injury normally and that's what I'm thinking in my case as I've recently upped the amount of cycling and running I do.
I did have slight symptoms back in June this year after doing a marathon MTB race and a couple of weeks rest cleared that up.
This time the symptoms/ pain is worse and it's been 3 weeks now with some improvement but still not right, about 70% towards normal I'd say.

My cycling buddy did mention my spd's and cycling shoes (Spesh body geometry ones) but I don't see how these could cause the tendonitis issue?
Having said that, I always used to use Sidi shoes with spd's and never had any issues.
So it's one of 3 things... too much exercise too soon, a cycling shoe/spd issue, or just age catching up with me lol!

I hope you see an improvement soon dyna-ti, I hate not being able to cycle/run and others don't seem to "get" how much of a pain in the arse this tendonitis thing is.
