A Very Modest Project (MTrax)

More for something to do than any cycling need (altho' health willing I hope to use it by the river over winter!), bought here (thanks Richardcs) a '94 Ti 1000. Paint is good (main decider) and came with as new original rigids.

Step 1 - simply because I needed to check head set and thought might as well swop forks at same time - lose about 2 lbs from front end:

Steel seat post and bars will go - black and red alloy respectively!
Separate levers and thumbies (the only thing I have "on the shelf apart from lighter saddle) will replace the combo Alivio.

Rest will be slower...

Here here. Good luck with this. I loves me Raleigh's. Got a wee project I'm working on to....

Thanks all.

Step 2. Nothing to see, but the hubs are newly cleaned and regreased - no sign that they've ever spun more than a few times, presumably because not the original wheels. Can't imagine why changed as I have the originals and no obvious sign of wear.

Step 3. The tedious stuff, like removing remnants of glue that held on chainstay protector - someone took it off without bothering to clean up!

Bought a new tube of AutoSol to polish the rims...

Lovely bike!

An mtrax was on my wanted list until I bought a Reflex. One of the few bikes that I can remember desiring back in ye olden dayes. :)

Nice to see kind words for Raleigh!

Step 4. Black (if cheap Kalloy) seat post looks better!

Step 5. Very light, red (well, sort of) risers - need to get the front end higher and thumb shifters. Waiting on brake levers and front cable hanger (I much prefer fork mounted variety). It's coming along though...

Re:

Step 6. About done. Requires a correct length socket cap bolt for the cable hanger (just a standard M6 temporarily) and a new headset (old one on the sloppy side however I adjust it).

Goes and stops and changes gear quietly and fuss free.

Heaviest of my now 3 bikes by some lbs! But will do for its purpose I think.

And some grips!
