A Very Modest Project (MTrax)

Thank you - I'm quite pleased - it's some time since I "did one"!

A little on the small side for me really - 16 1/2" centre b/b to top of seat tube, just over 21" c to c effective top tube, but with a silly 135mm stem (which may have to go for something a little shorter and more up-right).

I've had more Raleighs than I can remember!

The two full titanium ones were nice - altho' the Timet race bike was so stiff that it rode like a (very fast) brick!

OK for the money I think!

While I wait on a bolt and a headset, intermittently cleaning the spare wheels that came with it. Actually the originals I assume and with stainless spokes and Alivio (wow!) hubs, "better" than current ones. Rims show no sign of use and I was wondering WHY changed, until I realised that valve holes, unlike the ones fitted, not for car type.

Tedious task and probably an ineffecient and wasteful use of my time, but I have plenty of time!

Anyone know anything better than AutoSol???

New headset fitted yesterday - I suspect the problem with the old one was simply that the starnut was in upside down! And the canti hanger properly bolted on.

So this a.m. it went for a ride! Given the modest cost and time invested it rides very nicely for a 20 year old. Tyres are too big - usual error - prone to rubbing on the chain stays.

Worth the effort for a winter rider.

that looks like a greasy kind of residue. Try something like jizer on it, if it's greasy or brakey it'll cut through it like butter.

Thanks for the suggestion - too late, they're done! Washed in white spirit, then a mix of brasso and autosol. Not sure what the filth was.
