Total hero of mine.He was unbeatable on 2 and 4 wheels.Man,he could make those Agusta and Gilera multis shift.Ive seen many Surtees documentaries and he always was as much a gentleman as he was a racer.Very very sad news.

Certainly not like him in F1 now. :( He proves you can be a winner and still be a sportsman and a gent.

I was a Tech Inspector for SOCAL SCCA racing in the CanAm era when I was in college in LA in the 60's. I met almost all of my heroes then, including John Surtees, when I inspected his Lola T70 at a number of races. Really laid back kind of guy, talking to him. The one I didn't get to meet, who was the greatest of his era, was Jim Clark...
