'97 VooDoo Erzulie

Just checking out your bikes and I've got to say I love old Voodoo's. Actually I love new ones quite a lot too.

Yours is looking pretty sweet :D

Cheers. . . changed the cables and seat a while back (orange Jagwire and Charge Spoon, respectively) so this is how it looks ..

I quite like the look of the Indys but am keeping a tentative eye open for something better ;)

Decided I'd put some gears on this today.. and get the original Mavic 238's back on there too..

Simple task..

Unless you're me

The only rear shifter I have is an 8-speed LX one.. nothing wrong with it, in good nick, the window is nice and discrete and sits under the bars.. lovely.

But the 238's will only take a 7-speed cassette..

No problem, can take the freewotsit off the current wheels and put it on the Mavics.. having just messed with axles and stuff, this was all fresh in my mind..
But no.. the allen key (biggest one in the toolbox) that I removed a freewotsit with yesterday doesn't even come close to this one..

First disappointment.. have to leave the black rims on for now..

Never mind - can still get it all done, ready just to swap the wheels over when their sorted..

Only the rear part of the gear cable from the donor bike is too short for this one and I have no more orange gear outer..
So I've cut a piece of brake outer and am using that (for now  )

Start feeding the inner cable through, lovely jubbly.. oh.. who's nicked a bit of me inner!!!!... It's about 3" too short!!

And there's not another one in the box - how could I run out of gear inner, I never use the stuff

So once again, spent loads of time and got very little done.. :?

This is all for coming out on a trail with you next week!!.....

Guessing it'd help to have a bike that's rideable

Lock-on grips would have been a bonus. . .

The donor bike and the Voodoo both have grips stuck on with hairspray

long time since I needed hairspray mate

I have one bike ready.....but giving you a cross bar isnt an option

Inner cable procured from LBS for the princely sum of £2 (and I'm that skint that the missus had to pay for it  )

Cable fitted.. some reference to Sheldons guide to setting up (not the easiest thing on a phone) and I have all 8 gears..
Brakes adjusted, cables trimmed, crimps crimped..

Still need to get the 238's sorted and back on but the old girl looks like this now (and I'm really rather pleased 8) )
