93 Rocky Mountain the Edge build thread

Back story: Bought a the Edge frame back in 93. Trail rode it for the year. Threw a RS DH on it in 94 and started racing DH on it. The shortcomings of the AMP rear end when pushed that hard were pretty obvious, so I stripped it at the end of the year, hung it in the shop for sale, and put the proceeds towards something a bit more robust (96 San Andreas).

Fast forward to last week. I had been keeping half an eye open for another one over the past couple of years. Found another one (frame) for sale and made arrangements to purchase it and have it shipped. It arrived on Friday.

Put it on the stand. Pretty good shape. Some battle scars, but that's to be expected. Going to go with a 732/Syncros/some bling build.

Got started on the build today. Got a few things hung on the frame. Could have made a bit more progress, but my assistant is a PITA, and I searched for over an hour for the Syncros Cattle Head top cap I KNEW I had (only to remember it was on the Cattle Head on my Zaskar. :facepalm: ). Back is complaining (as usual). That's enough for today.

I didnt realize how many companies liscenced the AMP suspension design...I guess its perfect for XC / Singletrack and some mild drops and jumps. True downhill would probably be too much as the rear of the bike would be flexing all over the place and the rear shock doesnt have the travel needed. Looks good so far, looking forward to seeing it done.

XT/ Araya RM 400 wheels. Picked out some tires, and threw some bars on. Plugging away at it after work. Should have it finished for the weekend ride.

Was hoping to get the bike up and running for yesterday's ride. Just wasn't in the cards. Ended up riding the Paramount. Figured I've had it for a year and a half, may as well try it out. I had forgotten how well the handle. A bit heavy, as I remembered, but it was fun. The tequila+Margarita mix came out for the post ride festivities, so any further attempts at bike building were put on hold. Got it finished this morning. It's not exactly how it will end up when I'm done (post, seat, front brake, and maybe levers), but it's rideable. Now it's time for a shakedown ride.

how'd you get the riser in the non-hinged Syncros stem??? :? is that a more modern version that has a shorter width bar clamp section?

Take a look at the first pic in the first post of my original Edge. Syncros Cattleprod and Club Roost risers. There's a trick to it. It involves creative thinking and two pennies.
