'90 Stumpjumper Comp framebuild

Team559

Retro Newbie
This is the only 26 incher in my 5 bike collection that doesn't currently work. Since I'm new, I have no idea if I can post them all in 1 topic?

Bought the frame online without knowing too much, if anything, about specialized bicycles, but hoping it would be something special.šŸ˜
It turned up like this:

Loads of overspray and likely some Ali Express stickers (with more overspray on them) to confuse whatever it might be.
Framenumber dates it (I think) at July 1990: 90G5516 Can anyone confirm?

After digging through layers of silver and primer, I stumbled upon what I think is the original Stumpjumper Comp color from the 1991 catalog.
It must be a Comp or a Team since the size is 19".

Since it isn't anything special, the frame was stripped of all eyelets, brake fixtures and cable tabs. The bike will be single speed with a coaster brake. Hence, not a single cable in this build 😁

The rear wheel is already laced with a DT swiss 545d rim. A black 1" stem and dropbar are sourced from my parts bin.

I have a front wheel with black Novatec hub and DT swiss 535d rim, but may change for another yet to build wheel.
The front wheel in the pic is just for mockup, as is the crank. Chainline will be 43.5 with 115mm Bottom bracket.

Colorwise thinking bright orange or plain grey/silver. Would love to have the bar tape in yellow.šŸ˜Ž Can't explain why.

Any love for these kind of builds? I hope to get the frame in primer over the next couple of days.
Am filming everything for a build video as well.

I have a 1990 Comp size c 15.5ā€ with rear U brake but that’s to give more heel clearance in small size. It was white with red decals. The look of it and the weight corresponds to yours (2.1kg if I recall). I concluded you couldn’t tell much from spesh frame numbers - rightly or wrongly. I restored it to a faithful 1998/9 look. Look fwd to seeing yours.
