8 Speed Cassette too wide for 8 Speed Hub. Help!!!

I don't know what I'm doing wrong here. I have an 8 speed Micro Shift cassette. When I fit it to my hub, an 8 speed Ultegra hub, it rattles when the lock ring is tightened, so I put in a spacer that fitted fine.
Now though, there is no chance the wheel will fit the frame without the cassette fouling the frame. (130mm)

I have tried the cassette on another wheel that has an 8 speed Mavic Crossland hub, and it does exactly the same thing.

I even tried it on a different frame that had 135mm at the back drop outs. No chance.

That is weird. If it rattles it usually means you need a spacer at the back to make it fit, so the fact it needs a spacer but also seems too wide makes no sense at all.

Is something preventing the cassette moving all the way along the freehub?

I'm struggling to think of a reason other than the cassette isn't going far enough . Do the larger cogs go all the way to the back on their carrier? The smallest one looks loose/mis-aligned, maybe it's not seating correctly?

I would say that the hub is not designed for an 11t sprocket. Does it have threads at the end on the outside of the freehub for a Uniglide cassette? If so the 11 tooth won't go on far enough. The threads were removed and the spline shortened slightly to make room for the 11. You can put a spacer behind it but run the risk of it hitting the frame as you've found. A 12-XX cassette should sort it out.
Ps: Mavic hubs needed (and came with) a spacer regardless.

Try a different locking, the one in the photos looks quite thick, plus if the threaded section is longer than usual then it will be tightening against the hub and not the cassette, that would explain the loose sprockets with tightened lockring.

yeah, try a shimano lockring, that micro shift one is very thick, because it's thick the frame will tighten against the lockring before the hub end nut tightens against the frame. if changing the lockring doesn't do it you may have to service the hub and put in an extra washer to space out the end locknut on the driveside on the hub which means that the locknut will stick out a little more, if it's only 1mm for the spacer you should be able to get away without re-dishing the wheel.

Weird. Does the lock ring bottom out on the cassette body before compressing the sprockets together?

Is it a 35mm or 36.8mm freehub body? And how wide is the spacer?
