7/8 speed shifter compatibility question

Good morning, i'm hoping this query will tap into a rich vein of knowledge/experience regarding STI shifter/brifter compatibility.

I recently bought a pair of Shimano 105 STI brake lever/gear shifters with the model No. ST-1055, they were described as being for a 2 x 7 speed set up which is great cos that's what i've got.
When they arrrived i gave them a quick once over and they are in great nick, however the right hand lever appears to click through 7 stops which I think makes them 8 speed examples?.
If this is the case will they work with my Shimano 600 (6400) 7 speed set-up?, or should I send them back?. I have read about different cable pull distances being required for different speed set-ups, although I haven't managed to find anything specific regarding these levers.

Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers Matt

They'll be fine. Provided the mechanism limit screws are set correctly the brifter will click through 6 changes, but won't be able to travel any further to click into the 7th.
