Retro Newbie
Hi, just fell in to the retro bike scene,

Have rescued my Dads old roadbike fron the shed as they moved, must have been in there 30 years.

From scouring the web could possibly be an Olympic model ?, as was only ever a 5 speed when he had it.

fitted with a Milremo stem, and Anquelle saddle ?, no ident on the bars.

'Designed by Ernie Clements' foil sticker on seat post, and underneath badly touched up chain stay! , also nice old copper metal head badge.

Have a tin of old bits and bobs, not much to source from, but hope to build up into a kind of retro hybrid of old and new.

Have his other bike an old condor of some kind ( see another post soon) which will remain ' period ' .

Any ideas, clues to frame etc most welcome, and as to what will fit and wont.

watch this space.

Falcon Olympic (which is what it looks like with the wrap around stays) was a bit before my time and probably 1970. Would have had centre pull brakes, alloy single cotterless chainset and liklely steel rimmed 27 by 1.1/4 wheels

Should have a 531 sticker somewhere on the seat tube, usually near the top...

hi ,

Thanks for the reply, had centre pull brakes for sure
, My dad thinks they were GB's, and there are weinmann bits and bobs in his spares tin,
the 531 sticker is present as you say on the seatpost,
it did have 27 1/4 wheels but they are long gone,

have another set of genuine falcon half chrome forks, which have turned out to be fully chromed and half painted !!

Frame still feels pretty light to me, and has gone to be bead blasted locally, hopefully will be able to see what sort of condition it is in then, as has surface rust present.

cheers

Pop up a picture of the forks. :D

Falcon usually only reserved full chrome for the Falcon San Remo Equipe of that era IIRC.
