56 days in prison for racist tweets?

"we need to cull 30% of the population"

"foreigners?"

"no, the natives"

this was at the time said in jest on a retro ride i was on, sometimes i think 30% is not enough.

there are some truly awful people in this world, frankly i want bigger prisons with more people in them, and i don't care if there's 5 to a cell that they're stuck in for 23 hours a day with nothing but the bricks on the wall to count.

sorry if you think that is harsh, it's my opinion and it's one that is not up for debate with me.

if you don't want to go to prison/get fined etc don't do something illegal/wrong/offensive/violent and if you do and you get caught don't expect any sympathy from me.

my 2p

All racist should have a compulsory DNA test on the origins of their genes, they will be surprised how "native" they really aren't. We are a country of immigrants.

Really? Let's debate, shall we?

If you were to have a child that's terminally ill and will only suffer more and more because the law doesn't allow euthanasia on minors, would you let it suffer or would you break the law?
Does that mean you deserve to be in a cell with 4 criminals just because you couldn't bear to see your child suffer?

Don't count on the judge dismissing the case. Murder has a fixed minimum sentence, and if the crime is proven, the judge has to sentence you.

True, it's an extreme case, but I'm pretty sure that there are dozens of people in jail who merely broke the law because the law was morally wrong.

56 days sounds correct to me. it will probably be in a 'open' prison

Judges have more discretion than that here.

I am wondering what real effect the 56 day sentence will have in terms of discouraging similar behaviour.

I tend to think that those views are the right of the viewer to hold and express, as long as they are not forced on anyone.

Perhaps a community sentence working within a multi cultural environment would do more good for him.

Maybe it would benefit him but it's not right for those who he'd be working with.
They need to draw a line and come down hard on those who cross it.
Is it right a cyber bully gets a harder sentence than a burgler?
No but I don't think the internet moron got the wrong sentence.
