Retro Newbie
Hi,

I've been a keen mountain biker for many years, though have enjoyed time on a couple of awful road bikes, so all this roadie stuff is new to me. However, i'll plough on.
Now I fancy getting a road bike as some of my biking buddies have, mainly for fast day rides/sunny evening blasts/sportives etc

But, two problems. Firstly, I can't let it cost too much, for all the usual reasons, and secondly I've got my heart set on something steel and a bit more interesting.
To cut a long misty eyed story short, I expect and want this bike to last a long time and have it for a few years; But if I don't I don't want to spend loads on a new "bling" bike that will likely be worthless in a few years if I don't end up using it. And lastly I remember my dad waxing lyrical about how good 531c was,how the ride comfort is great etc......

So, anyone got anything that might be suitable, or want to tell me that i'm off my rocker and why?!!

Cheers,
Dan

Certainly in good company here so if you're off your rocker then I guess all of us are! Only other thing that people will want to know is what size you're after.

What about a 1987 Raleigh Road Ace? 531c in 57cm it is a frame and forks but I could build this up into a nice bike for you.

Hi,

Thanks for all the suggestions and pm's - I'm certainly learning a lot!

legrandefromage - Thanks for the pic. Lovely looking bike. I'm hanging out for something a bit newer though I think.

Cheers,
Dan.
