i`ve finally got around to restoring a bar & stem combinbation - the bars are steel & I can find no maker`s mark of any type. The stem is adjustable & a similar pattern to a Major Taylor.
Stamped on the bottom of the stem near the expander there is a mark which looks like an Egytian ankh: it`s only about 3/8".

Might anyone know the maker?

Hello & thanks for the info - I remember their fishing rods in tubular steel!
I`ve got a lot of cleaning up to do on the parts but hope they will chrome Ok.

Accles & Pollock used to produce a Major Taylor stem. Here's one I had re-plated and it has the 'ankh' mark near the base.

That looks identical to mine! If it comes up as well as the chrome on yours I`ll be delighted - going on a JRJ track frame for my son. I have used Prestige Platers in S Yorks previously - can I ask who did your stem & about how much? (Sitting down & prepared to wince).
Thanks, Julian

Hi Julian,

Hopefully not as bad as you are expecting :)

I posted it to these guys: http://www.rschrome.co.uk/

They stripped it and re-plated if memory serves me right for £35

You can take photos by a tape measure and email them for a quote to double check the price :)
