25" Overbury's Connoisseur refurbed

Re: 25" Overbury's Connoisseur in need of TLC

Black, black, black, grey, black. With a carradice.

Re:

After a few days visiting folks got to spend a couple of hours stripping the old girl down. Then moved onto the tourer. wheels are done. Frame is partially degreased. New jockey wheel. Wheels took an hour each before I lost the will.

Re: 25" Overbury's Connoisseur in need of TLC

Need to find a treatment to stabilise the rust. Not looking to strip and repaint so just looking to minimise any further damage. I remember I used to use something that converted it to solid but can't remember what it was.

Any suggestions as to a modern equivalent please?

Kurust applied today. Frame is really nicely made with simple elegance. It could really do with fresh paint but apparently decals are impossible to source.

Happy New Year readers.

Halfords tomorrow for touch up. Or it could be Boots.

Re:

Kurust, goodness that takes me back a year or 30.

We used to use that on the rot boxes my mum used to drive, in a vain attempt get them through just one more MOT.

Wheels look great and I'm looking forward to seeing the final outcome of the build, in person.

Re: 25" Overbury's Connoisseur in need of TLC

I'd say this bike has never been stripped. The canti posts were rusted. Anywhere there should be grease is covered in a tar-like layer of hardened grease/filth. Lots of white spirit and a toothbrush to shift it all. Almost ready to start putting it back together.
