Thought I’d share a few snaps of the Jamis Dakota frame set I recently built up having purchased it from @36hours (thanks again for a smooth sale and tip top communication!)
I’ve had a hankering for a retro(ish) decent steel frame with front suspension since building a 99/2000 Giant ATX Team - I love it, but a bit stiff in the saddle when it gets bumpy for long periods.
I also like to do a bit of trials when I’m out and about. So a smaller frame than I usually ride would be ideal.
That’s when I spotted this Jamis, not a brand I’m very familiar with, but the geo checked out, it’s a 19inch frame, I liked the simplistic lines and it’s made of good quality steel. Ideal!
It arrived last Saturday afternoon, and with no intention to build it fast, I couldn’t help myself trying to get it ready for a 30mile ride on the following day.
I finished it early hours in Sunday morning

The 30mile shakedown went well, but I realised I could run a shorter stem, so I swapped the bar and stem combo when I got home:
I tried to keep the colour scheme in keeping with its original spec with the bits I had to hand:
I can’t believe how quickly I’ve felt at home on this bike. Super compliment and comfortable on the gravel, and can deal with the bigger stuff I throw at it.
Last night I was billy no mates for my usual weekly ride, so decided to see how far I could push myself and the bike in the trials / free ride direction:
