Last bike that I took to bits was about 20 years ago when I converted my dad's then vintage Dawes 531 into a fixed wheel commuter complete with a paint job courtesy of a VW bodyshop. All those components you could actually dissemble, toss in turps and apply grease to for a good-as-new ride.
