This is my third Chameleon, and the previous two are likely the only bikes I've ever truly regretted selling. I simply love the versatility of this bike. My first one was owned/ridden back in the early 2000s. It was built up as a freeride/DH sort of rig, weighed about 28 pounds. Super burly. The second one was a light weight single speeder... Fox F80x fork, lots of ti and carbon. This one will be somewhere between the earlier two. Light enough for a long XC ride; but burly enough to handle my fat ar$e on the way down.
Picked this one up in January of this year. I've been sourcing parts since then. Much thanks to all the RBUKers who have contributed parts along the way. I'll give specific shout-outs as the time comes.
For now, here's the beginning.
Frame: 1999 medium SC Chameleon in the ever-so-perfect lime green and a Thomson seatpost hiding under the green shop towel.
Poor pic of some of the selected parts.
The fork, a 2000 Z1 CR, mid-overhaul.
CK headset pressed in.
Bottom bracket shell tapped (threads were fine, just lots of old thread lock material in them).
Nice and clean!
More to come!
