1998 Kona Ku

Sooooo, with the help of a couple of awesome fellow Retro Bikers on here (I won’t name them as I don’t want them to be bombarded with similar requests, but if they want to make them selves known that’s up to them), I managed to grab this ‘little beauty’ and ship her from Canada to West Sussex, England.

She’s not been very well looked after and I knew she was going to need a respray (but beggars can’t be choosers when it comes to a Ku - especially a 98 one).

I’ve been changing my mind daily about what colour to paint her but now I’ve received her I’m definitely going to get the original colour matched and restore her to her original glory.

Pic of the serial number which I think is: H9A00480

She came with a seatpost inserted which has 27.0mm stamped on it but when I’ve tried to insert a 27.0mm Thomson - the Thomson won’t fit??

I know @d8mok 98 Ku takes a 26.8mm seatpost so perhaps mine is the same and someone has shaved .2mm off the 27.0mm it came with?

Build is going to be M952 XTR with (I think) silver kit (Syncros stem, Kooka cranks, silver seatpost and handlebars but not sure which ones yet).

Would like some new wheels too (ideally 217’s or 517’s on XTR hubs but we’ll see)

Will update as I go. First off is to get it resprayed…….

To be continued

Congrats on a great score, especially the price. I've a saddle coming that way over the pond that's cost as much 😬

You know my take on keeping it OG so I won't repeat myself.

Most importantly, will you be riding it? I've never tried one and apparently, according to Pip, they are fantastic 👍

Yes I do plan to ride it, admittedly it won’t be my go-to ride as it’s smaller than I’d usually ride, and I have other alloy bikes but I do want to see how she feels out on the trails.
