1998? GT Zaskar build.

Picked up this Zaskar from Facebook to build up for my other half, she's currently using a Giant "Rock" which is heavy, basic, and in all probability a little bit too small for her. This is a 16" frame.



My plan was to swap over the parts from the old frame onto this one, but then I saw a bike for sale locally that looked like it might make a good donor bike so today I went and bought another bike :facepalm:
All is not lost! It turns out I hit the motherlode with the donor bike as it turned out to be fully loaded with Hope jewels... hubs, q/r's, seat clamp, bar end plugs, hose guides etc :mrgreen: almost seems too good to put on a Bike for the Mrs, but I'll make sure I have a "test ride" or two once it's finished

I made good progress today and got the headset, forks, bars etc swapped over, then hit a hurdle with the Octalink bottom bracket, couldn't find my removal tool so may end up buying another one so I can switch the chainset over.



Other than that I just need a rear disc adapter, which I have ordered so should be able to get this thing up and running by next weekend all being well.

So today I fitted an A2Z disc adapter to the rear of the frame, it went very smoothly and looked like a well made bit of kit.
Also fitted the Octalink BB and chainset, the chainset was originally a double ring with bath guard, but I had some spare chainrings in my spares box so it's now triple ring.
Fitted an SLX front mech too. All that's left to now is fit the Deore shifters that are en route to me in the mail, and fit the gear cables.
You may notice the armchair-like saddle that's fitted, as it's going to be for my other half I didn't think she'd appreciate a razor-like Flite Ti saddle

I took this for a ride last weekend, and have to say I really like it! Bit small for me but it's a lot of fun to throw around. The Giant MPH brakes are actually fairly decent, as is the Manitou Skareb fork. It's a retro bike that I can really get along with :mrgreen:

I've changed the chainset for a modern Acera M3000 one (needs a shorter BB ) and also routed the rear brake cable properly (which meant bleeding the rear brake).
I have a new chain and cassette on the way, and then that should be it
