1997 Voodoo Erzulie

Retro Guru
This started with a conversation in Thetford with my brother about the e-stay Killi frame and forks I had given him way back in late 94. He still had it sitting around and I was going to have it back to build up again. I started collecting parts before noticing a crack in the frame. Being a cautious and usually skint type I decided I wouldn't repair and repaint incase it cracked again. The Killi was Karmared out and the hunt for a new steel hard tail was on. A call to the ever generous big brother revealed his Voodoo Erzulie frame wasn't doing much, and so this story begins.

I wanted to build up a bike for retro value, to have a steel hardtail for local woodland thrashing, but not flash as I want to be able to ride it to the paper shop without worrying too much about it. A generous donation of some 99 Judy SLs from a pal and a small fee for a drive train from a 99 Rockhopper from another pal and the build started to take shape. I was looking out for period wheels but they were never much less than a set of new ones from Merlin. Silver LX hubs and 317 rims keep a retro look. Few other bits to finish and it was ready to ride.

One bottle mount has come out and will need to be replaced at some point. I'll probably have it refinished in light blue at that time and might replace forks as the stantions are quite marked and there is some play in bushings. Anyway, for now here it is.....

Tidy functioanl bike, looks like it ticks the boxes you want it to.

Good point re: second hand wheels, never seem to be many that represent good value when you consider how cheaply you can get some modern ones from the likes of Merlin (I know they're not retro but hey).

Anyway, good bike, get some more pictures up! :D

Been tinkering with mine (Erzulie) today.. ready for a pootle next week.. (and, o/t but.... the headset for the Kili arrived too... NOS M651 DX)

Loving the Voodoo's, look forward to more pics 8)
