1996 Saracen Tufftrax completed 100221!!

Re:

Awesome. As you bought it, is how I remember 1996. A Saracen, with riser bars.

The mid 90s for me were full of exotic bikes in magazines, carbon Treks, Zaskars, Merlin titanium, but in reality we all had a Saracen or a Raleigh of some sort.

Finally got this build complete and I’m overjoyed with how it’s turned out... reunited it with the original owner today and he couldn’t believe how fantastic it’s turned up and remembered the day he picked it up from the shop!

I’ll get to try it in the street when the snow clears... here’s some pics and I’ve stuck it into BOtM Feb for what it’s worth. It’s by no means a unicorn but is like the day it left the shop and i do love the colour and how it changes in the light....

Feels incredibly light too... I’ll weigh it when I post the full spec list....

Hope you like it and build list will follow when I get chance...

Cheers
Andy

Ps.... next up? Either my sane era green Saracen Kili Team or my 1998 Scott Endorphin!!! ;)

Re:

Looks great. I love a simple period correct, catalogue spec build.
The only thing I'm not keen on is the grips.

Thanks mate.... yeah I was gonna go black ODI but you know I just thought I’d be a little different with this one.... looks better in the flesh and if they are too lairy then all you do is ride it and your hands hide them

I’m looking forward to the green kili now!!!

Now for sale to fund other projects....

Link to sale thread here:

Acquired this recently from my mate who bought it new. He used it and loved it but it was time for a full renovation back to standard.

Was mainly original bar the unbranded riser, road biased tyres, shifters and LX V brakes. Saddle had been upgraded at some point to a nice Flite Ti.

I’ve been chipping away at this build for several weeks between other projects and it’s finally coming together.

First pic shows how it was when I acquired it a month ago...

I’ve since fully stripped it and machine polished the paintwork which has come up a treat! The colour is amazing in the flesh.

New decals applied today , including new stem decals (courtesy of the brilliant Gil M).

I also sourced a NOS Ritchey Forcelite straight bar.

I found some almost NOS period STX shifter/levers along with STX cantis to fit and some nice new skinwall tyres will be going on.

Anyway... Ill update further as this progresses but here it is so far....
Hi I've got one of these bikes back from 1997, can you tell me where you sourced the transfers? Cheers

Re: 1996 Saracen Tufftrax updated 310121

So... bit of an update...

The wheels have all been cleaned and serviced, NOS tyres fitted along with ODI grips, some purple ano bottle cage bolts.. Flite titanium restored and refitted, BB and chainset all degreased and polished along with new cassette fitted....almost there!

Had to get a few pics of it outside as the colour really pops and is so deep. I prefer the colour of this over all my other restro bikes at the mo...

Cheers
Andy
Does anyone know the paint code for this purple?
