1996 orange P7 post size?

Does 26.4 sound correct.. The Orig post is almost unreadable but 26.4 does not tie in at all with the Orange website?

Mine is 29.6 if that helps. I believe the frame to be circa 1996. its definetly a lot bigger then 26.4, the P7 is an oversized frame.

That sounds more like an early 90's Clockwork. They had a 26.8. From sometime around when the C16 was introduced they had a 29.6 with a 27.2 shim though I think.

As far as I know P7's always had big seat tubes (29.6mm). Could be a Prestige I guess, not too sure about them, but my money's on a Clockwork.

The early P7 with the canti hanger was a 30.0mm which is a really bizarre seatpost size to get. Luckily I got a NOS Syncros one for mine for £6.99 as it wouldn`t fit any other bike!

I think I got it down to a 96 P7 as that being the year the RS version with yellow graphics was out with the Q21 shocks.. Think Ill go borrow some calipers the markings on the original seatpost are really bizarre and seem to have nothing to do with the dimensions!!

Are you sure that there isn't a shim in the frame?

positive... it def seems to say 26.4 now i have removed a layer of rust

You need to measure it. The seat post (or internal diameter of the seat tube at least) should be just a smidge under 30mm. (You can check with a ruler). If it isn't, there is either a shim fitted, or it ain't no P7.

The other way to check is the front mech should be a 31.8mm.

OOOPS major red faces.. Never even noticed because of the seat clamp and the rust theres a shim.. you were all correct.. That saved an embarrasing waste of cash. The seat post thats in is the original orange post with logos that came with the bike originally I presume, would it be usual to fit a shim from new?
