With my Stumpy project nearing a close I've been looking through the classifieds for something to do next. Then, I saw a battered number that needed a new home.

The dents don't bother me too much as I doubt I'd ever break the frame even if I was riding it normally off-road. My plan, however, is to build it up so I can do some miles on it on the road. It'll be set-up like a mountain bike, but have a set of narrow slicks/semi-slicks on it. If I can build it up for less than £200 (using some bits I already have), I'll be happy :)

I'll be running it with some rigid alu forks I've had for a bit:

Rough spec (I hope) will be:
* DX V-Brakes
* White Industries chainset (already have)
* White Industries front hub (in the post)
* 8 or 9 speed - not yet decided
* KORE stem - surely a must on a GT

I will only start on this properly once the Stumpy is finished though! Maybe...

This will be the second Zaskar I've owned. I had a '94 model a few years ago, which my Dad still rides.

You could always knock the dents out by drilling a small hole on the opposing side then knock them out with a thin rod and hammer.

Really? Wouldn't putting a hole in the opposite side compromise the integrity of the frame more than the dent? Wouldn't a filler be a more sensible option?

No experience of this myself, just thinking out aloud by the way.

Interesting ideas Earl.. looking forward to this. Need some decals for certain :D

The dents can stay, they're doing no harm...haha.

I had the alu forks on my Mantra (alu frame) for a couple of rides and found them ok, so they'll do the job for this build. Saves me buying something else too.

I kind-of agree with the decal comments, but depends if I can get some replica's cheap. Don't want to spend too much on this build (for what it'll be used for).

Thanks for the comments :)

Really like Zaskars . . even with a few dents ;)

Heard of folk reducing them with frozen peas (the dents. . )..

Cool bike 8)

Frame was delivered today. Looks better than in the pics to be honest. Will attack it with some Autosol this weekend and go from there :)

Here she is:

Gave part of the top tube (where the rear triangle joins) a quick polish and it comes up great. Will try and give everything a polish this weekend. Then can think about decals.

Kids and wife were out for a bit so I cracked out the metal polish:

Also been in touch with Gil about decals. Just can't decide what colour to go for :? Sample:

Also should have a rear mech and gear levers on their way.

However, may have sold the fork now. I think a RS Judy would look a bit better on this build, so have made some enquiries in to getting a set.
